Energy

Making Montana A National Energy Leader

With one of five seats on the State Land Board, the Attorney General has a responsibility to be at the forefront of responsible energy development in Montana.  We have a wealth of natural resources that can be turned into clean energy and provide high-wage jobs, a boost to all segments of our economy, and a direct infusion of tax revenue for public schools.

Increasing our wind, water, natural gas, coal, and oil production in Montana will:

  • Relieve soaring energy prices.
  • Help reduce our nation’s reliance on foreign oil.
  • Provide new, high-wage jobs for Montana.
  • Have a positive impact on all segments of our Montana economy.
  • Increase tax revenue for public schools.

We can be a leader on energy production, but it takes more than talk—it takes action.

Positions on Energy Development:

  • I support expanded development of all energy sources, including wind, water, natural gas, coal and oil.
  • I support energy conservation efforts in both the private and public sectors to reduce our energy demands.
  • I support the prompt development of the Otter Creek Coal Tracts while strictly adhering to all environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • I support the protection of a clean and healthful environment, and will not tolerate those who illegally pollute our air, land, or water.
  • I oppose efforts by special interest groups to stop responsible energy development.
  • I support legislation to reduce lawsuit abuse connected to stopping energy development projects.
  • I support legislation to ensure that natural resource development companies don’t pollute or avoid their clean-up and reclamation responsibilities.
  • I support a competitive tax structure and a sensible regulatory structure to make sure energy jobs don’t leave Montana for surrounding states.
